Zoya Truth and Dare Nail Polish Giveaway!

You know how Oprah gives away her favorite things? Well, of course you do - unless you've been living under a boulder. Anyway, this week, I'm giving away one of my favorite things...the Stamps ladies' favorite things, actually (my maiden name is Stamps, by the by).

My sister, Lauren, is a huge fan of Zoya's Color Lock System Kit. And as I write this, Mama Spoiled Pretty is sporting Zoya's Renee on her tips and I'm rocking Paz on my toes. So without further ado, I present this week's contest, sponsored by Zoya.

Three winners will receive Zoya's Truth and Dare Collections.

Truth Collection (above): classic, bright and straightforward
Penny - copper gold metallic
Kalmia - rose copper metallic
Salma - scarlet red metallic
Isla - venetian red metallic
Anaka - fuchsia metallic glimmer
Drew - mauve rose metallic

Dare Collection: edgy, dark and mysterious
Vanessa - blue red cream
Ciara - burgundy plum cream
Demi - purple mauve cream
Pinta - inky violet cream
Envy - gleaming Jade green
Ibiza - gleaming Sapphire blue (with a little shimmer too)

To enter the giveaway, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address. The subject line should read "Zoya Truth and Dare Giveaway." The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Sunday, August 16th. Three winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, August 17th, I'll announce the winners' names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. residents.

Good luck!

Ten Questions with Tory Burch

It’s hard to believe that Tory Burch launched her eponymous label only five years ago.

In 2004, she opened a flagship store in the NoLIta neighborhood of New York City; the boutique, filled with ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and jewelry, sold out on the first day. In 2005, she was endorsed by Oprah; the following day, toryburch.com received 8 million hits and Oprah’s prediction became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Since then, Tory Burch has become the unofficial outfitter of celebrities and soccer moms alike. With its zesty color palette, striking prints and forgiving cuts, the brand furnishes fashionistas with stylish yet wearable clothing and accessories, sans sticker shock. And her much-imitated Reva ballet slipper are on many a girl’s wardrobe wish-list (including my own).

Recently, I had the much envied opportunity to chat up fashion phenom and fellow Philadelphian, Tory Burch. So if you want to know more about the brainy beauty behind this chic lifestyle brand, try this interview on for size.

SP: When did your fascination with fashion begin?
TB: It would have been impossible not to have developed a passion for fashion and style growing up with my mother and father. They have both always had an amazing and innate sense of style. I did not always dream of being a designer, but I think the fashion industry was a natural fit for me. After over 15 years working in marketing and public relations for great designers like Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Narciso Rodriguez, it became clear that my passion was in the design process and I knew it was something I wanted to do.

SP: What was your first big break in the fashion industry?
TB:
Eight months after our launch I got a call from a producer at Oprah saying that they were doing a show dedicated to the "next big things" and Oprah wanted to feature the line. I was sure it was some friend of mine making a prank call, but it wasn’t. After going on Oprah’s show everything changed. The day the episode aired we got eight million hits on our website and suddenly women in America seemed to know who we were. It was amazing. I can definitely say we owe a huge part of our success to Oprah’s support.

SP: How would you describe your design aesthetic?
TB:
We design timeless yet modern American sportswear with a bohemian sensibility. I design clothes that I want to wear myself and being a working mom I need easy pieces that work well with my busy lifestyle. I think most women can identify with that and they want to look chic and fashionable without having to spend a lot of time putting an outfit together.

SP: In your opinion, what makes a woman stylish?
TB: I think everyone probably has their own idea of what is stylish, but the best guide to looking chic is to focus on what looks well on you. I like to mix unusual colors and prints and have learned what silhouettes suit me the best. I love fashion and pay attention to trends but don’t necessarily always follow them too literally, again I think it’s best to know what works on you. I like when women show their individuality and put a bit of their own personality into their style.

SP: Favorite color combination?
TB:
The combination of pink and orange is classic yet unexpected. Our signature 3T print is done in pink and orange on everything from our shopping bags and shoe boxes to flip flops and cosmetic bags. The chairs in our showroom are orange with pink velvet cushions and I love the way they brighten up the space. They are both uplifting and vibrant colors that go well together on everything from accessories to clothing to furniture.

SP: I absolutely adore your double T logo. It’s genius! How did it come about?
TB:
We worked with a branding company called MODCO who showed me about 200 different logo designs. I was drawn to the one we chose because it didn’t look like a traditional logo. I see it as more of a design element that we incorporate into our prints and our signature hardware.

SP: Favorite places to shop in Philadelphia?
TB:
Anthropologie is one of my favorite places to shop for unique gifts and I love their home section. Blue Mercury has the best selection of candles, lotions and beauty products. They have a mix of both well-known and up and coming brands so I always find something new to try. My step-daughters love to shop at Boyd’s and Skirt. They have great denim brands and a terrific mix of designers at all price points. Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia has everything. Definitely one stop shopping.

SP: If I were to search your handbag, what beauty products would I find? And what is your signature fragrance?
TB:
NARS Lipstick in Mitzi. Signature fragrance - Vetiver by Guerlain.

SP: What is your everyday beauty routine?
TB:
My beauty regime is very easy. I don’t wear a lot of makeup and often leave the house with wet hair. My style is very natural and easy and my beauty regime is similar. Not too much effort goes into it.

SP: What’s the best beauty tip/secret you’ve ever heard?
TB:
Protect your skin from the sun.

Kim Kardashian's Short Cut

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me...you can't get fooled again.

When Kim Kardashian unveiled the above photo on Twitpic.com, I knew she was just playin'. Remember her 'blonde' do back in April?

Turns out celeb hairstylist Ken Paves was behind Kim's cropped bob. It was all a part of a tress transformation for an upcoming issue of O Magazine.

The Miche Bag

As you know, I'm a handbag fiend. Despite the fact that this site is (technically) a beauty blog, I spend a good amount of time introducing you to some pretty purses. But I'm an equal opportunity blogger, which is why I feel compelled to also address one of the fuglier purses I've seen in a while: the Miche Bag.

Have you seen this thing? The Miche Bag has interchangeable covers that attach with industrial-strength magnets, so you can change the look of your bag to match your tacky-ass outfit.

I'll give it to the creators...it's a creative idea. It's just a shame that the final product looks so cheap. I mean, the pleather appears to be so bargain basement that I could imagine, if your bag got dirty, you'd just wipe it down with some Windex and be on your way. And you know if it looks bad on TV, it's gonna look a hot mess when it's all up in your grill.

If you're looking for a bag that offers more than just one look, might I suggest Gwen Versatile Handbags? Gwen purses transform with multiple looks, textures, and styles. Hailed as must-haves by celebrities (Oprah digs them), Gwen handbags give their wearer the ability to create her own style.

I own a gray and silver Gwen clutch that was created exclusively for Avon (not the one seen above), and I luvre it.

Don't Hate. Appreciate. Oprah's Hair is 100% Hers!

Ever since Oprah started styling her hair in a sleek blowout, people have been wondering if her mane was unbeweavable.

Well, the big O set the record straight on Friday's eppy of her talk show:

"Am I wearing a weave? Everybody’s like, 'Oprah, we love your weave.' This is not a weave, this is my hair." And to prove that she speaks the truf, Oprah shared this photo of her mane in all of it's natual glory. "This is what my hair looks like. This is me before it gets pressed and curled in the morning," she continued.

Gail's response? "Yowza!"

Bacon Flavored Lip Balm

My girl Beth tipped me off to the looniest lip balm I've seen in probably forever - J&D's Bacon Flavored Lip Balm. For just $3.99, you can moisturize you lips and make yourself taste like bacon!

"A great stocking stuffer, J&D's Bacon Flavored Lip Balm will keep your lips from chapping while constantly reminding you why bacon is the king of meats."

Buy a 12-pack of the lip balm for $24.99, and give the "gift of bacon flavored kisses" to "friends, lovers or anything in between."

The product has skyrocketed to fame, since being featured on last Friday's episode of Oprah. Pretty ironic, considering the Swine Flu going around. No?

Did You See Oprah's New Sexy Hair On Yesterday's Show?

Okay...so I realize that yesterday's eppy of Oprah was of a serious nature, but the main thing that stuck with me was O's new do. The daytime queen traded in her signature curly q's for long, loose waves. I'm loving it. I'm so wild about it, I just want to throw up my hands and jump on a couch.

It was time for a change and I think this new style suits her perfectly. What do you think?

Scooped By Oprah: Kai Body Buffer

In the winter of 2007, Oprah named Kai’s Body Buffer as one of her Favorite Things. "Bathing is an art form and nobody enjoys it more than I do," she said. More than a year later, I can finally appreciate why Oprah is so enamored with Kai.

Every morning when I lather up with the Kai Body Buffer, my cold and uninviting shower/tub hybrid is instantly transformed into an island paradise. Infused with exotic perfumes and natural essences (including palm, coconut and olive oils), the hypo-allergenic sponge foams when wet - gently cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing my winter-worn skin. The suds are so intoxicatingly fragrant that I don’t want to rinse them off; the scent is nothing short of divine. I want to smell like Kai every second of every hour of every day. Next on my wish list is Kai Eau de Parfum...because I'm quite serious about wanting to live my life enveloped in this exotic aroma.

Gals-on-the-go will love Kai’s Body Buffer because it’s an simple way to fit some much-needed pampering into your jam-packed lifestyle.

A set of two sponges (30 uses each) retails for $36.

Is There A Correct Order For Applying Hair Products?

You shampoo your hair. Then you apply a mis-mash of conditioner and styling products in an attempt to tame your mane. But is there a correct order for applying hair products post-shampoo? O, The Oprah Magazine's beauty director, Valerie Monroe, sets the record straight.

Yes, that's a good idea, says Eva Scrivo, owner of the eponymous salon in New York City, because each product has a different function.

After you shampoo, start with a conditioner or detangler to coat the hair so that the styling products you use next will be evenly absorbed. Follow that, if you like, with a mousse, styling gel, or styling lotion, which you should comb through your hair for even distribution, to increase the product's effectiveness. (Combing through ensures that the stuff covers the whole strand instead of just lying on top of it, so you get more volume or moisture saturation or whatever it is you're going for.) Finally, if your hair is frizzy or hard to control, work a silicone-based smoothing product through the ends before you blow-dry. After you've done your styling, you can use a spray for shine and hold, or, if you want a piecey look, try a texturizing wax.

Bottom Line: The magic formula is condition, style, then hold.

Bambi-Like Lashes

Over at Makeup Loves Me, my girl Marina extols the virtues of Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara. Her review made me realize how much I’ve been taking LashBlast for granted lately.

I used to think that it didn’t get any better (or bigger) than DiorShow mascara. But when I met LashBlast, I fell in love – hard and fast. Its phat brush and glossy ink color gives me Bambi-like lashes.

And, as if you needed more convincing – LashBlast is one of Oprah’s favorite things.

Oprah's Favorite Things For Summer

Today, Oprah surprised her audience with her top things for summer. When producers first approached O about doing this summer version of her favorite things show, she wasn't feeling it. "My producers pleaded with me to do this topic today, and I didn't want to do it," Oprah said. "So I said, 'Absolutely not. I am not doing Oprah's Favorite Things for summer.'" But after thinking about it, Oprah changed her mind...good thing for her studio audience, fans around the globe, and the brands whose products made the cut.

Gayle King, Oprah's BFF and the editor-at-large of O, The Oprah Magazine, stopped by to unveil her favorite of the Spring Makeup O-wards.

"Don't you hate it when you get something in very pretty packaging, and then you open it up and the product is not as good?" Gayle asks.

"The thing with Yves Saint Laurent is that we thought the packaging was so pretty and we liked all of the products. It was hard to pick just one, so we picked everything in the line—the marbled blush, the lipstick and the eyeshadow."

Another standout is the CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara. "This was the first time anybody's come to the offices with a scientist to explain how [the makeup] works," Gayle says. "This is the scientific explanation: A dual polymer system keeps the mascara from migrating underneath your eyes. That's code for it doesn't smudge."

OPI Nic Stick's Paint & Go Nail Lacquer is a portable pen filled with nail polish, perfect for anyone who smudges as soon as they leave the salon.

No one wants to wear heavy makeup in the summer heat, so Gayle's final two favorites made the grade for their light texture.

"Clé de Peau lipstick is silky and feels light on your lips," Gayle says. "And I like the fact that it's so sleek and slender in your purse." She gave Rimmel Mousse Blush major props for its high-quality, light formula and low price.

Oprah also added one of her beauty faves to the list - NARS Cosmetics Kabuki Artisan Botan Brush.

"I love a great brush," she said. "It's perfect for loose powder, for buffing and for blending."

Is Jada Pinkett Smith Hiding A Black Eye?

Okay...so I've been hearing some crazy things about Miss Jada lately. Word on the streetz is that she's using that crazy ratnest mullet hairdo to hide a black eye. What ever happened to good ole concealer? Did anyone see the Oprah/Tom Cruise interview? It seems that this is where the buzz started.

You know I love the celeb fodder. So if you have any info (or just wanna spread more rumors), please leave them in the comments section below. Be a gossip, girl...I won't judge.

You're Invited: Enter To Win Oprah's Favorite Thing!

Right now, I’m sitting at home watching Oprah. Today’s show is a re-broadcast of her “Favorite Things 2007” episode.

A few weeks ago, I blogged about Oprah’s favorite beauty buys – click here for that post. One of those products, the Clarisonic Skin Care System, is my latest giveaway prize (a $195 value).

So if you haven’t yet entered the contest – what are you waiting for? Consider this your invitation. The contest closes tomorrow at 9pm. So enter…and tell a friend. This giveaway is one you don’t want to miss!

Oprah And I Are Two Of A Kind

I aspire to be like Oprah Winfrey. But since I don’t yet have a talk show, a magazine, or the power to turn an unknown manuscript into an international bestseller, I’m doing the next best thing.

I am giving away one of my favorite things, which also happens to be one of Oprah’s beloved beauty tools - the Clarisonic Skin Care System (a $195 value)!!!

Oprah gave away three hundred of these babies a few weeks ago on her “Favorite Things 2007” episode. I only have one to give away…so if you weren’t in her studio audience that day, here’s your chance to win one.

Developed by the people who created the Sonicare Toothbrush, the Clarisonic Skin Care System removes six times more makeup than soap and water alone. It clears your pores of dirt, oil, and residual makeup – so that the ingredients in your skincare products are more effectively absorbed. What I love so much about this product is that the creators seemed to think of everything; case in point:

*The Clarisonic is rechargeable (the system comes with the charging cradle) and waterproof, so you can use it in the shower as well as at the sink.
*The Clarisonic features a timer that beeps and pauses to indicate it’s time to move onto another part of your face (20 seconds on the forehead, 20 seconds on the nose and chin, and 10 seconds on each cheek).
*Though the system includes a 2 oz trial size Gentle Hydro Cleanser, the Clarisonic can be used with most non-abrasive facial cleansers.

Oprah wasn’t exaggerating when she said, "It's a miracle massage for your face.” Since I started using the Clarisonic, I’ve had minimal breakouts and I marvel at how soft and smooth my skin feels and looks. It’s just amazing how much more radiant my face is after using this product for the recommended two minutes a day. I adore this product so much, and I am extremely excited to host this giveaway in partnership with Clarisonic!

To enter, leave a comment in the comments section below by 9 pm EST on Thursday, December 13th - be sure to include your name and email address. Or email me at spoiledpretty@gmail.com if you're uncomfortable posting your email address below.

A winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Friday, December 14th, I’ll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one comment per person; duplicate comments will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!

Oprah's Favorite Things 2007

Yesterday, America watched as Oprah unveiled her Favorite Things of 2007 list on an unsuspecting audience in Macon, Georgia. Three hundred golden ticket holders left the convention center pushing shopping carts filled with the (now) most coveted products in the country.

This year, Oprah took her show on the road because Macon consistently has the nation's highest percentage of viewers tuned into her talk show. Filming the "Favorite Things" episode in Macon was a thank-you to the fans, she explained. Audience members left the local convention hall pushing shopping carts toppled with loot – including camcorders, apparel, refrigerators with an LCD TV built into the door – and, of course, beauty products!

When the ‘Queen of All Media’ wants to spoil herself pretty, she reaches for…

Claus Porto Soaps From Lafco New York
These all-natural, bath-sized bars distributed by Lafco New York are a labor of love. They have been created by the Claus Porto's family-run factory in Portugal for the past 117 years. Each bar starts with top quality 100% vegetable soap base and pure, skin softening shea butter. Next, the finest fragrances from the South of France are mixed in so that the scent lasts until the very end of the bar. All of these ingredients are then milled seven times in the traditional European way for a hard, dense soap that has an ultra luxurious and creamy lather.

The jumbo-sized soaps appeal to the senses with beautiful wrappers and 17 magnificent scents, from honeysuckle to grapefruit fig. "They make great hostess gifts," Oprah says.

"It's clean and fresh," she says.

Oprah Makes The Cut

Oprah Winfrey is an Oscar-nominated actress, activist, magazine editor, producer, book club sponsor, radio host…and now, hairdresser?

"It's taken months to get to this moment," Winfrey said. "It involves a two-time Academy Award winner, a sharp object, and me."

The media mogul cut nine inches off Hillary Swank’s hair, as part of a charity effort airing tomorrow on her talk show. Swank’s hair will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths - a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut, and donate their hair to create real-hair wigs for women who've lost their hair due to cancer.

"I've been growing it for the last six months to donate my hair," Swank says. "I've been taking a lot of vitamins and taking really good care of it, knowing that it would go to a woman in need."

Also as part of Oprah's Great American Haircut show, 100 viewers received makeovers in one hour.

Good Gourd

October is right around the corner. And when I think of the tenth month of the year, pumpkins always come to mind. Although the fruit (you thought it was a vegetable, didn’t ya?) is most commonly used in pies and bread, pumpkin’s health benefits make it a beneficial beauty product ingredient.

Pumpkin contains more than 100 nutrients, which may be used to help reverse signs of aging. Pumpkin enzymes have the highest source of beta carotene and vitamins to combat oxidation and free radical damage.

Fall is officially here…and to celebrate the change of season, here are my top picks of the pumpkin patch. Trust me - these products will leave you glowing and grinning like a jack-o-lantern.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Peel
A detoxifying peel for the face and neck. Utilizing pumpkin enzymes to easily and gently dissolve dead surface skin cells, this deep exfoliator stimulates cellular turnover, to reveal radiant skin that is supple and naturally hydrated. Age-fighting anti-oxidants and Vitamin A help protect, nourish, and repair skin. Plus it has a delicious, irresistible pumpkin scent.

Molton Brown Skinbalance Toning Lotion
Naturally exfoliate and brighten the complexion with this non-drying, rebalancing preparation. American pumpkin enzymes, pink grapefruit, lime and yeast extract combine to strengthen the skin and reduce moisture loss. Skin is revitalized, softened and smoothed. Gentle enough to use around the eye area, this is suitable for all skin types.

Bath & Body Works Pure Simplicity Pumpkin Purifying Mask
It's like putting holiday dessert right on your body! But this purifying mask does more than just smell great—it exfoliates and moisturizes, leaving your skin smooth as silk. Oprah touted this product as one of her 'favorite things' back in 2003. (Bath & Body Works recently discontinued their Pure Simplicity line, but you can still find this magnificent mask on eBay).

Burt's Bees Miracle Salve
Save yourself from dry hair and skin, miraculously. Moisturize and nourish hair, hands, and body with this super-enriched, emollient formula. Pumpkin seed oil, which is rich in fatty acids, combines with olive oil and wheat germ extract to hydrate and protect dry hair and skin. Meanwhile, protein-rich bee pollen nourishes and rejuvenates, while emollient beeswax holds in moisture.

Yes To Carrots C is for Hair Care - Hair and Scalp Mud Mask
Experience gorgeous hair like never before with C is for Hair Care. C is for Hair Care moisturizes, softens, detangles, shines, and volumizes...and contains extracts of carrot, pumpkin, orange & honey, rich with Beta-Carotene, Alpha-Carotene, Vitamin E and other enzymes that keep your locks in tip-top condition.

Bella Lucce Pumpkin Glow Body Scrub
The enzymes in pumpkin pulp combine with pumpkin seed oil to dissolve dull, dead cells, revealing the healthy radiant skin underneath. Pure cane sugar is enveloped in this creamy blend of nourishing oils and butters, spiked with warm, aromatic essential oils for a soothing treat. As with all Bella Luccè scrubs, their Pumpkin Glow emulsifies into a creamy lotion when applied, then rinses clean for delectably soft skin without oily residue. Bella Lucce also carries a Warming Pumpkin Masque.

PS (Pumpkin Secret) – In the late 90’s, the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago conducted a study that concluded one third of American men are turned on by the smell pumpkin pie. Intrigued? Click here to learn more.
