Splurge and Steal: Must Have Hair Accessories

Two blogs on my daily must-read list just tipped me off to two must-have hair accessories.

Splurge: This Sailor's Knot Headwrap by Jennifer Behr is now on my radar, thanks to The Beauty Department at Lucky Magazine.

Steal: Teen Vogue's beauty blog clued me into these adorable Twig Hair Pins, which are available at Mai McKemy's Etsy shop.

Love Lucky Magazine

I have issues. Too many issues. Magazine issues, that is. I collect magazines like Angelina acquires orphans, so anytime I see a glossy new fashion mag on the newsstand, it's coming home with me.

On my lunch break, I picked up the May issue of Lucky - one of my favorites. Lucky has fab content, but what I love the most is the nifty stickers...so that I can tag the items I wanna blow my cash on later.

I'm also a big fan of Lucky's informative and snarkaliciously entertaining blog, The Beauty Department.

Check it out and bookmark it!

Lucky Girl

Spotted: B on the cover of January’s Lucky Magazine.

Inside, the 20-year-old dishes about music that gets her in the mood, east coast vs. west coast, and her style evolution. “I’m having so much fun, but I’m trying to keep my head together too, stylewise. There are so many young women out there dressing like young girls; I want to be more ladylike and classic,” Lively says.

Mamma Mia / Hot Mama

Christina Aguilera is no longer keeping her pregnancy on the DL. At recent events, the songstress has been proudly showing off her growing baby bump. Too bad she’s still keeping that maternity glow hidden under layers of theatrical makeup. Although Aguilera has made (baby) steps in the right direction by trading red lips for pretty pink ones, she has a ways to go. Is it wishful thinking that the onetime dirrty girl will fully come clean?

On the other end of the spectrum is Keri Russell, who is looking resplendent on the cover (and inside the pages) of Lucky Magazine’s November issue. 2007 was a good year for the actress - as she married her longtime love, gave birth to son River, and became the new face of Cover Girl. “I don’t spend a lot of time on my makeup, but throwing on black mascara and nude lipstick is enough to make me feel glamorous,” she says. Her low-maintenance makeup includes Lash Blast Mascara in Very Black and Tru Shine Lipcolor in Blushberry Shine - both by Cover Girl.

Cover Girl

Heidi Klum is Lucky Magazine's December 2007 cover girl - looking gorgeous in gold. In the issue, Klum says, "With makeup, I have two obsessions: plum colored eyeshadow, because it's the best for bringing out green eyes, and light, girly pink lip gloss."

Enter to win Heidi Klum's cover outfit and makeup —worth more than $4,000! Plus: The first 50 to register will receive a Victoria's Secret The Heidi Collection Very Sexy Makeup Lip Gloss in Hot Cocoa.

No purchase necessary.

Double Duty

Did you know that nail polish remover does more than just remove nail polish? Accessories designer Melanie Dizon revealed to Lucky Magazine how she uses this beauty staple to clean patent leather.

What you’ll need: A couple of cotton balls and a bottle of standard-issue nail polish remover.

How it’s done: Immediately after wear, spot-clean surface stain by lightly rubbing with a cotton ball doused in nail polish remover. Air dry for five minutes then store the item in a cool place.

I Scream, You Scream

As a little girl, my favorite flavor and scent was vanilla. Not much has changed since then, as I still have a bit of a sweet tooth – and not just when it comes to food. That’s why I am so excited to try Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Blow Dry Cream.

It’s made with 100% Tahitian Vanilla Bean Oils and silk amino proteins to nourish and strengthen hair. Organix promises that the cream's "heat memory" lengthens the life of your style, while providing thermal protection from the heat of blow dryers, curling irons, and other hair styling tools. And Lucky Magazine says it smells like vanilla ice cream.

Why am I still writing about this and not out buying it?

Organix products are available at Target, Walmart, Walgreen’s, Amazon.com, and CVS.

It's Unanimous

According to Lucky Magazine and its readers, the new and undisputed beauty heavyweight champion of the world is Sephora.

For the first annual Lucky Shopping Awards (featured in the November issue), the magazine gives props to the best department stores, boutiques, chain stores, and websites.

"Sephora has become the definitive one-stop shop," says beauty edito Christina Mueller. They really do have everything: Fresh, Ojon, Stella McCartney's organic skincare - plus high-tech dermatologist lines lik Dr. Brandt Skincare and N.V. Perricone M.D. Cosmeceuticals. In New York branches, you can find Anastasia brow studios.

Sephora Trivia: Sephora is the combination two words—Sephos and Zipporah. Sephos was the term for all things pretty in ancient Greece and Zipporah was the name of Moses’ wife who was renowned for her exceptional gorgeousness. Put the two together and, voila, you’ve got my beauty Mecca's moniker.
