Put The Breaks On Hair Breakage

You know that line, "Break yourself, fool!" from Superbad? Well, my hair was taking that euphemism literally.

My hair has been delicate, dry, and damaged – thanks to 25 years of chemical relaxers and a recent dependence on hot tools. As a result of my hair abuse, my ends were breaking off left and right. Every time I brushed or styled my hair, it was a sorry sight – little, broken hairs all over my shirt, bathroom counter and floor. Every day, I was pulling a Jay-Z and brushing my shoulders off.

My hair was, basically, breaking off as quickly as it was growing – which explains why my hair hasn’t gotten longer in the past seven years. And let me tell you…it was like salt in the wounds when a well-meaning friend suggested I "grow my hair out."

Obviously, if I stopped straightening, blow drying and using a flat iron on my hair, it would be in much better shape. But let’s get real – that’s not going to happen. What To Use When Your Hair Is Tore Up, From The Split Ends Up

Blowout at Ted Gibson Salon Blows My Mind!

Yesterday morning after arriving in NYC for Fashion Week and dropping my bags off at the hotel, I high-tailed it to the Ted Gibson Salon on 5th Avenue.

Jason Backe, who recently dyed my hair to the most gorge hot chocolate hue, arranged for Amber and me to get our tresses blown out. Vincenza, before shampooing me with Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo (which smells DIVINE, by the by), was shocked by the softness of my hair. She was even more astounded when I told her it was thanks to Nice 'N Easy ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss.

Laisam rubbed a Ted Gibson Hair Sheet on my towel-dried hair to rejuvinate my locks and protect against UV rays and environmental damage, then she blowed out my hair to perfection. While Laisam skillfully styled my hair, she entertained me with funny stories about her mom - whose crazy antics remind me a lot of Mama Spoiled Pretty.

Before Laisam sent me on my way, to grace New York with my bomb blowout, she rubbed a little shine serum on my hair to make it shine like the top of the Chrystler building. This product isn't yet on shelves, as Ted is still testing it...but Laisam has a great pet name for it; she calls it "crack juice" because once you use it, it becomes an addiction.

There aren’t enough hours in the day for me to accurately describe how this magical elixir has changed my life. I’m a beauty blogger, so I have to test and review a plethora of products. Which means that I have to switch it up all of the time. But the one hair product I CANNOT take out of the rotation is Moroccanoil Oil Treatment. This amazing oil strengthens brittle hair, softens unmanageable manes, nourishes dry scalp, restores shine, eliminates frizz, protects against UV damage, speeds styling time by 40% and provides long-term conditioning to all hair types. Amazon Beauty’s Rahua Elixir is so absolutely fantastic that it made me look past the fact that it costs $100 for half an ounce and smells like a barbecue grill.

This is a holy grail hair product if ever I met one. Rahua Elixir is a 100% natural hair oil infused with seasonal herbs and flowers that is handmade in the Amazon Rainforest by women of the Quecha-Shuar tribe. The concentrated oil repairs hair in three minutes by penetrating the hair’s cortex - adding brilliance and elasticity to all hair types.

To use as a hot oil treatment, apply 3-5 drops of Rahua Elixir to towel-dried hair, concentrating on the ends. Heat activates the ingredients, so blow dry to smooth, treat and add shine. Rahua Elixir can also be used on dry hair - just apply 2-3 drops on ends and brace yourself; your hair will be so soft and supple, you’ll swear this oil was magic.
