Jenni Kayne Mommy Bag: Free With Purchase of $75 at Drugstore.com

Beauty.com has garnered quite a following for its fabulous collaborations with top fashion designers, and now for the first time, sister site drugstore.com is partnering with fashion designer and new mom, Jenni Kayne, who designed a chic, portable bag filled with eco-friendly products for mom and baby. The stylish Mommy Bag, available for a limited time exclusively at drugstore.com with a purchase of $75 or more, is a roomy canvas pouch that Jenni created as a compact yet practical alternative to a more traditional diaper bag.

Kayne, who welcomed her first child Tanner late last year, wanted to create something large enough to store products for a quick outing and small enough to stash tidily into a stroller or slouchy handbag. The washable, durable bag has elasticized pockets for bottles and snacks and offers a reliable way to keep baby travel basics separate and accessible.

“When I was pregnant I was looking at diaper bags and thought there should be more options for busy new moms,” says Kayne. “Diaper bags can be so cumbersome and sometimes when you’re going out for a walk or need to run a quick errand with a baby, a giant bag doesn’t make anything easier.”

This functional, fashionable design by Jenni Kayne is valued at over $50 and comes filled with full and deluxe-sized samples for Mom and Baby, many from the drugstore.com Green and Natural store:

Recessionista's Fabuless Picks of the Week

I’m eczema prone in the wintertime, so I can’t be sudsing up with just any old body cleanser this time of year. Last month, while shopping at CVS for wrapping paper, I came across Johnson's Vanilla Oatmeal Body Wash, and quickly snatched it off the shelf. For centuries, oats have been used to soothe, protect and moisturize dry and irritated skin; so I figured if this body wash contains oatmeal and is gentle enough for infants, it couldn’t hurt. I’m glad that I took a chance because this bottle o’ bubbles is just what the dermatologist ordered. The creamy formula lathers up nice (sans sodium lauryl sulfate) thoroughly cleanses without stripping, the oatmeal relieves my itchy scratchies and the subtle vanilla scent is warm and comforting. And for less than $5, it’s this recessionista’s pick of the week. And it’s even more fabuless if you actually have a baby…you can share!

After you emerge from the shower/bath, do yourself a favor and don’t dry yourself completely. Pat your skin with a towel so that there’s still some moisture on the skin - then apply Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil all over your body. This preservative-free, lightweight formula contains an exclusive blend of key ingredients for scars, stretch marks, dry, damaged skin, uneven skin tone, aging skin, lines and wrinkles. The oil locks in moisture; your skin will look and feel soft, with a radiant sheen. The product sinks in on contact and the formula is non-greasy and non-staining, so you needn’t wait to get dressed. The scent is to die for (like a frothy black and white milkshake) and it’s only $10.99 for a 5.1 oz bottle!

Johnson's Baby Cologne

By the weekend, my rash had gotten so bad that I had to go back to the doc’s office. Afterwards, I took my new prescription to CVS - then browsed around the store, waiting for my Rx to be filled. While searching for the magazines, I took a wrong turn down the baby aisle…and guess what I saw? Johnson’s Baby Cologne. Yes, you heard me right. Baby cologne.

Here’s the 411 on this shameful new product:

Johnson’s Baby Cologne has a gentle, fresh fragrance with a pleasant combination of floral and citrus hints. It leaves your baby smelling clean and fresh. This clinically proven mild formula is alcohol free, making it just right for your baby's delicate skin.

What is this world coming to? What kind of parent is thinking, “Damn, my baby really reeks. Maybe Johnson’s is onto something with this baby cologne!”

I actually smelled this stuff, and it’s truly awful. Don’t get me wrong – I do not condone spritzing cologne on infants. But if your target consumer is still in diapers, wouldn’t powdery notes be more appropriate than floral and citrus scents?

I think that if any parent attempts to purchase Johnson’s Baby Cologne, they should be met at the register by Child Protective Services. Just a thought.

Baby Your Baby's Skin

When it comes to beauty, you are a woman who demands nothing but the best. But what about your baby? Why should your little beauty junkie in-the-making settle for Johnson & Johnson?

In 1991, Jessica Iclisoy was concerned about the potentially harmful ingredients that she found in her son's baby shampoo, so she turned a personal interest in healthful living into a professional mission to create safe products.

Today, she is President of California Baby, an L.A. based, all-natural baby care line. California Baby, which is sold online at californiababy.com and at Whole Foods and specialty stores around the country, includes the popular staple product California Baby Shampoo & Bodywash, as well as aromatherapy bubble baths with names like Overtired & Cranky and Chamomile & Herbs.

California Baby is also wonderful for older children, as well as adults who want to baby their sensitive skin.
