Swedish director/producer Kjell Sundvall, who directed the hugely successful 1996 thriller "The Hunters" (Jägarna) is set to direct the sequel to the movie. Rolf Lassgard will reprise the role as Erik Bäckström in "The Hunters 2," and will be starring alongside Peter Stormare ("Premonition," "Horsemen").
In the sequel, policeman Erik Bäckström (Lassgard) reluctantly agrees to once again go back to the north of Sweden to solve a crime, where he confronts the local head of police (Stormare).
Sonet Films' Peter Possne will produce the sequel, in association with Bjorn Carlstrom and Per Janerus. TV4 and Filmpool Nord co-produce.
Shooting will begin in August next year for the $5 million sequel. Movie is scheduled to be release in fall 2011.
